Printer "Creep"
Laser printers vary in the way they put print jobs on paper. This variance occasionally
causes CMS print jobs to creep up or down the page, because the printer prints a different
number of lines per page than what the software is set to print.
Two files are sent out with the DOS program that help us diagnose and remedy laser
printer problems. The first is a test file named TEST.PRN. We use this file to determine
how many lines per page the printer is actually printing. Copy the file to the printer
port using the DOS COPY command. For example: C:\COPY\TEST.PRN LPT1. The printout will
show exactly how many lines and columns the printer is printing.
The second file is named CMSPRN.CFG. CMSPRN.CFG is an alternate configuration file that
has ten of the more common preset printer configurations. This file allows you to try up
to ten different configurations and find the one that is closest to your printer. To run
CMS with the alternate configuration file, change to the directory where your CMS data
files reside (default is \CMS), and type the following command: CMS -CMSPRN.CFG.
