NETWORK INSTALLATION NOTES for the Reporting to the MAX
Network
configuration is a complex project and every network is different. The configuration of a network varies as the
needs of the users vary. Each different
combination of computer hardware, operating systems, network clients, software
applications and input/output devices requires a unique combination of settings
for ultimate performance. For this
reason, we can’t define your network configuration for you. The following are general guidelines which
we find work with most networks. In
most cases these suggestions are valid and should be followed. Novell
Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions products are only tested and certified on Novell Netware 3.x,
4.x and 5.x. Do not attempt to use our
products on a Netware Lite or Personal Netware network On
a Novell network, do not use the “set cmsdrive” statement in the autoexec.bat
of each workstation. All workstations
should be mapped so that the path to the CMSMAIN.EXE is exactly the same for
each workstation with regard to drive letter and directories. Acceptable drive letters are F through
W. A through E are reserved for local
drives and X, Y, and Z, are reserved for search drives. Do not install your Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions
on a Novell search drive. We
recommend the following SET commands be added to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. If the commands already exist in the
AUTOEXEC.NCF, verify that the values are set to a number at least as high as
shown here. SET MAXIMUM RECORD LOCKS PER CONNECTION
= 1000 SET MAXIMUM FILE LOCKS PER CONNECTION = 500 SET MAXIMUM RECORD
LOCKS = 40000 SET MAXIMUM FILE LOCKS
= 20000 If you intend to use
Novell’s client, the version of the client must be at least as new as the
following. Older versions will corrupt
your accounting data files: Client32 version for Win 95, 98 is 3.3. Client32 for NT, WIN2000 is 4.8. You should also go to Novell’s website and download and apply the most current patches for your version of Netware All users that have access to Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions must have full rights within the data and program directories. If not, your Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions will not be able to function normally. Your Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions can be installed on the server from any workstation. Once you have installed the software on the
server, run CLIENT.EXE from every other workstation that will access the
software. CLIENT.EXE is located in the
folder on the server drive that you specified in the installation process. The first time you
run CMS Accounting for Windows, go to Company | Setup/Select Company |
View/Modify | and click on the System
Settings tab. Verify that the Data Path points to the correct drive and
directory. For any Microsoft
based Networks make sure that the install of the full package is physically
done on the server. This is important due to the fact that the installation
installs Dll files and vbx files to the system directory and if the install is
done over the network via a workstation the proper files will never be
installed on the server but onto the workstation in which the installation
occurred. ?
Font Change Tcp/Ip should be in all

Server
Do NOT
use NT version 4.0 with service pack 4. Must use any service pack greater than 4. C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT MEM Largest
Executable Program Size must be at least 590K. Reboot. Must be logged in as
administrator on the server. On the server create
a folder C:\COUGAR (or any other name up to 8 characters). Share this folder
with Full Control. My Computer. Go to the drive and folder to be shared, e.g. C:\COUGAR. Left click | Right click on the folder. Select Sharing. In the Sharing Tab, select the ‘Shared As’ option and type a share name, up to 8 characters. Then click the ‘Permissions’ button. Select ‘Type of Access’ to be “Full Control”. Click the ‘Add’ button. Select ‘Domain Users’, and select ‘Type of Access’ to be “Full Control”. Click OK, click OK, click Apply. The “Cougar” folder icon should have a hand appearing on it. Map this folder with
all rights. Network
Neighborhood. Select the computer name
that is the server. On the next tile,
you should see the root folder where CMS was installed from above, e.g.,
Cougar. Do a Left Click | Right Click
on the folder. Select Map Network
Drive. Select the drive letter for this
mapping. This is the same drive letter that will be used by all workstations. Check the ‘Reconnect at Logon’ box. This
must be done on the server as well as each workstation that will be using
Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions. E.g., F = C:\COUGAR This will keep the
SYSPROF1, CMS.INI and shortcuts consistent with the path statements. Install CMSWIN to F:\CMSWIN on the server, not from a workstation through the network. (The reason why would be greatly appreciated) Create an icon on the workstation/server by
right clicking on a blank area of the desktop, go to new, shortcut. On the command line, type
f:\cmswin\cmsmain.exe, click next, name the shortcut and click finish. In the Company |
Setup/Select Company | View/Modify | System Settings tab, the Data Path is
correct to the network drive. On a workstation go
to start run and type the path to the cmsroot directory and run client.exe.
E.G. F:\CMSWIN\Client.exe. This will install the environment to run Cougar
Moutain Software on the workstation, follow the prompts. WIN95/98 Server

(workstation and server) (spaces might cause problems) For WIN95, verify the
virtual redirector files are current. VREDIR.VXD 9/11/97 VNETSUP.VXD 5/30/97 if either of these
files have a date older than above, go to www.cmstothemax.com, go to downloads,
then go to either accounting for windows or accounting dos and download the
VRDRUPD.EXE file. run this from the
start command or double click on file name in explorer. Make sure to go to
www.microsoft.com and download the Y2K patches for Windows 95 and 98. For every machine
that uses Cms software go to a dos prompt and at the c (usually represented as c:>) prompt
of each computer that accesses cougar type mem. Look at the largest executable
program size \ conventional memory free. The number should be higher then 590k.
If it is not it can cause you some problems. Server: Workstations: Map the network to
the root of CMSWIN. Network
Neighborhood. Select the computer name
that is the server. On the next tile,
you should see the root folder where CMS was installed from above, e.g., Cougar. Do a Left Click | Right Click on the
folder. Select Map Network Drive. Select the drive letter for this mapping. This is the same drive letter that will be used by all workstations. Check
the Reconnect at Logon box. E.g., F = C:\ For Peer-to-Peer, the
map will be to the root of the server,
e.g., F: = C:. set cmsdrivec=f The
first letter at the end of the cmsdrive statement is the drive letter that
CMSWIN is installed in on the server.
The second letter is the mapped drive letter. Set AUTOEXEC.BAT
statement, on each workstation to: “SET CMSDRIVEC=F”, or the appropriate drive
letter. Save and Reboot. On each workstation,
run F:\CMSWIN\CLIENT.EXE to C:\CMSWIN. [http://cougarmtnsupport.com/This_page_covers_the_following.htm]
