Question:
When installing a Reporting to the MAX Windows product,
the installation fails with an error referring to the CMSOBJ
or GLBSSTUB file. The exact message can vary, but will be
similar to "an error has occurred in your application" OR
"your application has caused a General Protection Fault."
In some cases, a subsequent error states "GLBSSTUB caused a
stack fault in module CMSSETUP.EXE. GLBSSTUB will close."
Answer:
This is caused by another instance of NTVDM running at the
same time as the installation. The WYSE installation routine
mistakes the other NTVDM for its own and tries to use it
instead of launching its own instance of NTVDM. This
encroaches on the memory space of the other NTVDM and causes
the errors.
Resolution
First try rebooting the computer and use TASK MANAGER to
verify that no other instances of NTVDM are running. Then
retry the installation. If it does not solve the problem,
use Windows Explorer to explore the Reporting to the MAX CD and
create a shortcut on the desktop that directly launches the
installation executable for the application. Set the
properties of the shortcut to enable Run In Separate Memory
Space. Then use the shortcut to launch the installation.
Following is a list of the installation executables for the
different products. (If the drive letter for the CDROM is
different than D:, substitute the drive letter for the CDROM
drive in place of D: in these examples.)
