Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions Tech Tip

Question:

How do I use Data Exchange to import data in to Reporting to the MAX?

Answer:

None

Problem:

None

Possible Causes:

None

Solutions:

What do you mean by tables (files, fields or columns)?
What format are you importing (Excel, DbaseIII, etc.)?

The best technique I've found is to :

  • add 2 temporary records into a file
  • Then open that file with Excel
  • insert enough rows for the new data
  • Cut and paste the new data in the blank rows just created
  • line up data
  • copy down required data if the new data is blank,
  • remove any blank rows
  • Save the file as Excel version 5 & dBaseIII
  • close file
  • go into DX
  • Import
  • select Excel or DbaseIII  (Excel usually works best)
  • select file to be imported into
  • select the index from the right panel
  • select the appropriate fields to match the index
  • OK
  • Automatically link
  • OK
  • Save procedure
  • Start
  • Exit after importing completed
  • Reindex files
  • Delete the 2 temporary records, normally or with UTICMS
  • Add a new record manually
  • if you get a record locking error, delete any blank records with UTICMS, and PACK file with UTICMS
