Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions Tech Tip

 Question:
CMSOBJexe Error when trying to install to a mapped drive on a Windows 2003 Server

Answer:
Prior to installing; ensure that the following steps are taken:

  • Logged on as Administrator
  • Disable any anti-virus software
  • Allow any exceptions in the firewall that are needed to install applications over the network (hardware or software).
  • Disable Windows Firewall
  • End any NTVDM.exe processes running in the task manager
    1. Ensure that you are closed out of all Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions Applications
    2. Open of the Task Manager (Ctrl > Alt > Delete)
    3. Click the processes tab
    4. Look for any images named NTVDM.exe
    5. If there are any of these images in the column highlight them and click the End Process button
  • Try to install the software to the mapped drive once again

Still getting the CMSOBJ.exe Error? Follow these steps:

  • Create a Cougar Folder on the root of the Server's hard drive(i.e. C:\Cougar)
  • Install directly to the C:\Cougar\CMSWIN
  • That should allow you to get past the CMSOBJ.exe Error
  • You will further need to change the Systems Settings Data Path so that other workstations will be able to access data from the server.
