Question:
Bartender labels offer by default only a maximum of 4 fields including the barcode on the label. Sometimes more fields need to be added to the standard Bartender label format.
How is this done?

Answer:
To add more fields to the standard bartender label formats do the following:

1) Print a standard barcode label with format 1 in Reporting to the MAX. This action creates a file in the data directory of the company you use called "labelXXX.dat". XXX is a counter starting with 00a. The next time labels print the counter goes to 00b and so on. *NOTE* There may or may not be the XXX in the file name.
2) Go into windows explorer and find the Reporting to the MAX Installation folder">

Question:

2) Go into windows explorer and find the Reporting to the MAX Installation folder, typically as CMSWIN or CMSACT.
3) Within the installation directory go to the company data folder and find the labelXXX.dat file.
4) Rename this file to "label.dat". Then copy and paste it into the installation directory
5) Close Windows Explorer.
6) Open Bartender.
7) Open the INVBC1.btw file found in the installation directory. Click on file then select database setup.
8) In this box select the Options tab. In the field "Text File Name", it says c:\btw\label.dat. Below that click on "Select File".
9) The file opens up into the installation directory of Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions. Select the label.dat file you copied to this location, then click Open.
10) Click on the button in the 3rd section of the options tab that says "Find Number of Fields". This action will increase the number in the box to 16 or 17 depending on what add-ons you have loaded, (ie Specialty shop and/or MLI).
11) To view the fields click on the "Browse" tab (older versions of Bartender may have a "Browse" button). Check the box: "Show all fields". Then click "OK".
12) The screen now is back on the label. On the menu bar select "Create". Then choose "Text".
13) Next, click on the label where the new field should be. This action will create a text box. The size and placement of the field on the label may need adjusting.

a) Highlight on the new text and then select Modify : Selected Object. A modify Selected Text Object opens.
b) Click on the data source tab; go to the dropdown menu and select database.
c) Go to the field, "Use Field", and select the appropriate field to add.
d) In the field "Sample Data", rename the field to a desired name. Example: A UDF has been created for this example in inventory as a suggested retail field. For this example it is field 13. An appropriate name for the field is "Suggested Retail".
e) Click ok.
f) Save the label format.

The label is now ready to print.
