Using Norton Anti-Virus with Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions for the Reporting to the MAX

Anti-virus applications are configurable applications with various settings that affect the level of virus protection provided. The protection requirements are different for each different computer and can only be determined by assessing the risks encountered within the particular system. This requires understanding of the entire operating environment and all hardware and software components. Reporting to the MAX including Point of Sale and Non-profit Versions doesn't have the familiarity with your computer system to determine your needs and therefore cannot tell you how to choose or configure your anti-virus software. If you need assistance with anti-virus software selection or configuration, you should contact an anti-virus software vendor or a qualified consultant.

When your anti-virus software is configured to provide the highest level of virus protection, it will interfere with the installation and functionality of the accounting software. This is NOT because of compatibility issues. This is because the anti-virus software is protecting your computer so diligently that your accounting data cannot be altered on the hard drive. The accounting software must alter data on the hard drive to function, so your anti-virus software must be re-configured to allow the accounting software to work.

During installation, we will advise you to disable your anti-virus software temporarily. We can usually help you do this and restart it when installation is finished, but in some cases, might not be able to work around security settings. In that case, we must refer you to someone who has full authority and the necessary familiarity to administer the computer. Once the anti-virus software has been disabled, we can proceed with installation.

After installation, the accounting software must be able to function without interference from your anti-virus software. Many anti-virus software products have an auto-protect feature that can interfere with the function of the accounting software. If we suspect your anti-virus software is interfering with the function of the software, we might instruct you to disable the anti-virus software temporarily as a test. If we determine that the problems stop when the anti-virus software is disabled, then you will need to resolve the anti-virus software configuration issue before using the accounting software. If you elect to proceed with your anti-virus software disabled, you assume the responsibility for the risk of virus infection. The risk can be minimized by not accessing the Internet, email, or floppy disks while your anti-virus software is disabled.
