Process Debit Card Transactions
with the Verifone Pinpad 2000

Point of Sale for Windows now features the capability to process debit cards. Debit cards function in much the same way as credit cards with one exception, when a charge is made against a debit card, the amount of the charge is subtracted from a personal checking account that the card is assigned to. A PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required for a debit card transaction to take place. Because debit card transactions require a PIN, a device is needed that allows for the input of PIN information as well as debit and credit card numbers. The Verifone Pinpad 2000, a hardware device that attaches to your computer via a serial port, provides this interface.

The Verifone Pinpad 2000 works like any other authorization system. When a debit or credit card transaction occurs, the Verifone device collects the account number, expiration date, transaction amount, and in the case of a debit card transaction, the PIN. It then sends the information to the bank processor and returns back verification of acceptance or failure of the transaction. For additional information on the Verifone Pinpad 2000, contact Reporting to the MAX at (714) 228-5444.
